FAQ

How do credits work?

Every API call costs credits. Search costs 1–10 credits depending on depth, Fetch costs 1 credit, Extract costs 5 credits, and Research costs 25 credits. You can see your balance in the dashboard.

What's the difference between Free, Monthly, and Pay-as-you-go?

Free · 1,000 credits/month, available to GitHub accounts older than 1 year. Includes Search and Fetch only.

Monthly plans (Builder, Startup, Growth) · Subscribe for a fixed monthly price and get a set number of credits that reset each billing cycle. Includes Extract and Research.

Pay-as-you-go · Buy credits whenever you need them at $0.005 each. No monthly commitment. Credits never expire. Includes all tools.

Do unused credits roll over?

Monthly plan credits: No. Plan credits reset to your plan's amount each billing cycle.

Purchased credits: Yes. Credits you buy (pay-as-you-go top-ups) never expire, even if your plan credits reset. They are tracked separately.

What happens when I run out of credits?

API calls will return a 402 error. You can buy more credits (pay-as-you-go) or upgrade your monthly plan from the dashboard.

What happens when I upgrade my plan?

Your billing is prorated. You only pay the price difference for the remaining days in your cycle.

Your credits are adjusted fairly: we add the difference between the new and old plan's credit allowance to your current balance. For example, if you're on Builder (5,000 credits) with 3,000 remaining and upgrade to Startup (20,000 credits), you get 3,000 + 15,000 = 18,000 credits.

What happens when I cancel my subscription?

Your account reverts to pay-as-you-go. You keep any remaining credits, they won't be taken away. You just won't receive new credits next month.

Can I use both a monthly plan and buy extra credits?

Yes. You can top up credits at any time regardless of your plan. Purchased credits are tracked separately from your plan credits—they never expire and are not affected by monthly resets. Plan credits are used first, so your purchased credits are only spent after your plan credits run out.

How does the free tier work?

Sign in with a GitHub account that's at least 1 year old and you get 1,000 credits/month for free. This includes Search and Fetch. Extract and Research require a paid plan or pay-as-you-go credits.

Email sign-ups start on pay-as-you-go with 0 credits.

What if my API key is leaked?

Go to the dashboard and click Regenerate on your API key. The old key stops working immediately. Your account and credits are safe. API keys can only make API calls, they cannot access your dashboard or change your account settings.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex use Ayasofya tools directly. Copy the one-click setup from your dashboard to connect your agent. The agent gets search, fetch, extract, and research as tools. It never sees your API key.
